Los Angeles newcomers and new Angel Tapes (an imprint of beloved Fire Talk Records) signee Jawdropped kicks their single “Star” off with a rush of drums and a sunny croon, evocative of early 2000s radio-friendly pop. It chronicles the age-old story of a girl who moves to LA to follow her dreams, finding herself “in Hollywood doing cocaine at the bar — living like a star.” Their new video, directed by Jack Dione of untitled (halo), cloaks this freewheeling track in bright, deep-fried visuals.
The band says
“Star” is the first song we recorded and we feel like it is the perfect introduction to Jawdropped. It’s rough and fuzzy around the edges, but it’s still a pop song at its core. It’s about a type of person, who comes to LA to live out some fantasy life, only to find out this ‘fantasy’ is just as drab as reality. The emotional rollercoaster of nights out, long days-in, highs and hangovers.
