Madonna made a spectacular entrance in Times Square late Thursday afternoon, materializing in a vibrant hot pink veil that immediately captured the attention of the New York City crowds. As she shed the cloak, the opening notes of her new single “I Feel So Free” signaled the start of a historic moment. Instructing the gathered fans to “meet me on the dancefloor,” the star transformed the iconic intersection into an open-air club for a surprise Pride Month performance held in partnership with the Grindr app.
The pop icon, now 67, demonstrated her enduring stage presence while sashaying across the elevated stage in silver knee-high boots and a matching corset. The performance served as a high-profile teaser for her upcoming studio album, Confessions II, which is the long-awaited sequel to her 2005 masterpiece, Confessions on a Dance Floor. During the set, she debuted ‘Love Sensation,’ the eighth track from the new LP, which is scheduled for a full rollout on July 3.
Before launching into the new material, Madonna reminded the audience of the cultural significance of the setting. “People think that dance music is superficial, but they’ve got it all wrong,” she previously noted regarding the new project. “The dance floor is not just a place, it’s a threshold: A ritualistic space where movement replaces language.”

The setlist also included ‘Bring Your Love,’ a track that gained significant traction earlier this year when Madonna performed it during Sabrina Carpenter’s headlining set at Coachella. Flanked by a troupe of backup dancers, the singer utilized a spinning platform and speaker boxes to maintain the energy of the packed streets. She also revisited fan favorites from the original Confessions era, including ‘Get Together’ and ‘I Love New York,’ the latter featuring a spirited air-guitar performance against a backdrop of flashing red screens and passing taxi cabs.
Madonna concluded the surprise appearance with ‘Hung Up,’ her global chart-topper that famously samples ABBA. Before exiting the stage, she offered a final shout-out to the city, roaring, “Thank you, New York City, I love you! Happy Pride!”
The Times Square takeover is just the beginning of a busy summer for the artist. Madonna is set to return to the Tribeca Festival for a ‘cinematic experience’ tied to the first six tracks of Confessions II. The film, which features visuals for ‘I Feel So Free’ and ‘Bring Your Love,’ will have its premiere on Friday, June 5, at the Beacon Theatre in New York City.
