Seabreather – “The Wind Brought Your Voice to Me”
Seabreather’s new single stretches on for eight minutes, but it’s so densely packed it’s hard to notice. “The Wind Brought Your Voice to Me” drips with marimba, strings, and such lovely choir echoes it seems to breeze right on by.

Redveil – “04”
Redveil’s short and sweet Niagara established him as one of rap’s rising stars last year, and now he’s back to prove it wasn’t just a fluke. “04” finds the seventeen-year-old toying with soulful production, and it’s one of his best tracks yet.

Bug Love – “Lush Life”
Bug Love’s new single “Lush Life” is a trippy Talking Heads-esque jam that shifts back and forth from a disco guitar line with a poppin’ bassline to spacey, rich vocal harmonies topped with interstellar synths. It’s a psychedelic, dancey, and fun track — the first off the band’s new record Judge, out December 10th.

Echoes from Jupiter – “L’assemblage de la fusée relativiste”
The newest Echoes from Jupiter single feels like a space odyssey. “L’assemblage de la fusée relativiste” is a ten minute journey through ever crescendoing guitars and increasingly violent drumming. It’s a massive, massive song, and it promises big things for their fourth LP, out this February.

Bong Mountain – The Battle of Bong Mountain
A decade ago Bong Mountain would have sounded right at home on No Idea Records, nestled in between a Good Luck and Bridge and Tunnel record. The rarity of a band like this in 2021 is part of the joy of listening to The Battle of Bong Mountain. Orgcore now feels like a fever dream, as the annual FEST has come to encompass a much larger swath of bands. So finding ones that do that gruff punk sound in a way that feels somewhat fresh is satisfying.

Louser – “Last Wild”
About a decade ago, before it was really cool to do grunge revivalist stuff, bands like Balance and Composure and Citizen were mixing dreamy, fuzzy tones with aggressive vocals to great effect. Today, Louser’s keeping up that tradition. “Last Wild” certainly has shades of those bands, but it feels firmly rooted in 2021. They would’ve been huge ten years ago, and hopefully they’ll get to see that success today.

Letterpress – “Hiraeth”
Letterpress’ sound fits in comfortably somewhere between the wintry emo of Empire! Empire! and the violin-laden slowcore of The Goalie’s Anxiety at the Penalty Kick. The band’s first song, “Hiraeth,” is a beautiful introduction; from the tradeoff vocals to the heavy dose of violin, it’s a really impressive track, and it bodes well for the newest band in the Florida emo scene.
