Peach Pit Live in Philly

Posted: by The Alt Editing Staff

On Tuesday, May 20th in Philadelphia, indie rockers Peach Pit and Briston Maroney played two electric sets at The Met. It was the first night of their tour together and spirits were high. Briston Maroney opened up the night. A songwriter from Knoxville, Tennessee, now based in Nashville, he released his third album ‘Jimmy’ just a few weeks ago on May 2. Heplayed a few new songs from this record. The set design of the show was jungle themed, made of paper mache and at one point he also led a kind of meditation with a voice talking about opening chakras. Some highlights of the set were some songs from his 2018 EP Carnival, including set closer ‘Freakin’ Out on The Interstate’, and the last song on the newest album,‘Be Yourself’.Peach Pit headlined the show and took the stage after Maroney finished up. They are aCanadian indie rock band that was formed in Vancouver, British Columbia. They released their newest album Magpie in October of 2024. Although their music may be more laid back and guitar driven, their live set is very energetic and engaging. An interesting point in their set was when lead singer Neil Smith mentioned that he wrote a song for his girlfriend (off of the newest album) and noted that now they are getting married in the summer. Everyone cheered, and then they played the sweet ballad ‘ Did You Love Somebody’. They also covered the song‘What Once Was’ by beloved late indie rock band Her’s. They finished up the set with some older tracks from their first album ‘Being So Normal’, including one of their most popular songs, ‘Tommy’s Party’. Despite their calmer music style, Peach Pit was very dynamic live and brought life into even the quieter songs they played.
