DIY lo-fi rockers Symbol Soup are set to drop their forthcoming album ‘Cattle Grid’ and offers a lighter take from previous releases. This collection of homespun recording features a singing saw, accordion, field recordings, and lap steel as frontman Michael Rae explores intimacy, disillusionment, and mental health with conversational vocals.
On the albums first single, Polterguys, Symbol Soup tackles those closest to you who are unable to look out for themselves because of mental health, drugs/alcohol or whatever psychic terror it is that plagues them. With wonky instrumentation and that singing saw, the band also reflects on our collective tendency to retreat into ourselves, and the need to find commonality in these difficult moments. Listen here.
