Song Premiere: Sharp Pins – “With a Girl Like Mine”

Posted: by The Alt Editing Staff

Sharp Pins is the solo project of Lifeguard’s Kai Slater. Contrary to that band’s nervy post-hardcore, Sharp Pins deals in bright, warm power-pop, pulling from Guided by Voices, Elephant 6, and The Kinks. Last year, Sharp Pins dropped their second LP Radio DDR, and in March it’ll be getting a reissue through Perennial and K Records, with three additional tracks.

Sharp Pins has already released two of those songs, “I Can’t Stop” and “Storma Lee,” and today we’re excited to bring you an exclusive premiere of “With a Girl Like Mine.” It’s a jangly, lo-fi guitar pop gem that feels like a lost time capsule from ’67. Slater shares

It’s kind of a doozy sad lover boy song and you can imagine me singing it with Eric Carmen (Raspberries) puppy dog eyes crying into an ocean of sorrow or something…if that helps the imagery. Musically it is very Hard Day’s Night and the music video was notably inspired by Ringo’s shitfaced river wandering scene in the film adaptation. A bit of a hungover heartbreak song to close the sunshine album.

Check out the single below.

The reissue of Radio DDR is out March 21st.
