The Alt Weekly Roundup (3/17/25)

Posted: by The Alt Editing Staff

The Alternative Weekly Roundup is a column where our staff plugs a variety of new releases in a concise, streamlined format. Albums, singles, videos, and live sets. Check back each Monday to see what we were jamming the week prior.

Commoner – “Change of Heart”

Commoner, who recently signed to New Morality Zine, just announced a new EP due out next month, and in the meantime they’ve released the title track. “Change of Heart” is a hazy, heavy alt rock track that should appeal to fans of Basement or Balance & Composure.

Flora from Kansas – Homesick

Homesick, the debut EP from Kansas singer-songwriter Flora from Kansas, is a delightful first outing for the teenage indie rocker. “Scared Away” is a highlight, a fuzzy, washy rumination on anxiety, and her glassy-eyed take on Alvvays’ “Dreams Tonite” manages to recapture what makes the original song so iconic.

Olivia’s World – “Healthy and wealthy”

“Healthy and wealthy,” the new single by Australian indie rockers Olivia’s World, navigates diet culture over fuzzy lo-fi riffs. Lead vocalist Alice Rezende’s dry accent peeks through as she endlessly searches for beauty serums and balance. Sardonic and off-kilter, the track conjures tongue-in-cheek twee aesthetics with themes about wellness culture that transcend generations.

agile / opposition dolls / fingerswoventogether – 3 way split

Florida screamo bands agile, opposition dolls, and fingerswoventogether combined forces for a pummeling split co-released by severed records and blackheaven. At no point during the EP’s roughly fifteen minutes do any of these bands let up, and although each come at the genre from different directions they all fit together nicely. There’s no dip in quality here either, although fingerswoventogether’s more lo-fi sound might seem a bit jarring at first.

Rodeo Boys – “All American Man”

Lansing, MI, punks Rodeo Boys must’ve gotten a little sand in their boots, and maybe that explains the heartland rock grit of new single “All American Man.” “I will love you forever / whatever shape that I’m in” goes the chorus, and you get the sense it’s spat out through bloodied teeth, but there’s no sense of impending defeat on “All American Man.”
