On Friday night, Movements took the stage at Marathon Music Works, delivering a set packed with raw emotion and high energy. Wrapping up two years of touring in support of their latest album RUCKUS!, the California-based band has grown to play bigger rooms and made their way back to Nashville. They were joined by Citizen, Scowl, and Downward, creating a night that spanned a range of bands in the growing alternative scene.
Kicking off the night, Downward pulled the crowd in with their introspective and heavy sound, creating an atmosphere of slow-burning intensity. Following them, Scowl turned up the energy with their hardcore punk influence. The contrast between the two openers highlighted the lineup’s diversity, keeping the audience engaged and ready for more.
Watching Citizen, it’s no surprise that they’ve remained a staple in the scene for so long. Evolving from their more pop-punk roots with their 2013 record, Youth, to their more pop/indie-influenced latest record Calling The Dogs, their setlist balanced old favorites like “The Summer” with newer material, delivering a set for new and long-term fans alike. Frontman Mat Kerekes easily commanded the crowd leading to almost non-stop crowd surfing.
When Movements took the stage, the atmosphere was electric. Opening with “Afraid to Die,” the band wasted no time delivering a well-balanced set that journeyed through their discography. During the set, vocalist Patrick Miranda reflected on the band’s growth throughout this album cycle, highlighting how much they have evolved over the past two years. Having previously headlined Nashville at Brooklyn Bowl in September 2023, their return to a larger venue like Marathon Music Works was a testament to their growing presence in the scene.
Whether you were a longtime fan or a newcomer, Friday night’s show was a reminder of the power of live music, to feel connected and wanting more. Be sure to check out the remaining dates here.
