Sasami Live in Chicago

Touring Blood On the Silver Screen, Sasami stopped by Chicago’s Lincoln Hall on May 12th.

Sasami, the musical project of multi-instrumentalist Sasami Ashworth, has a sound that can be impossible to pin down between tracks, let alone from record to record. If her first two albums were driven by creative production and propulsive industrial sound, respectively, Blood On the Silver Screen is powered by Ashworth’s voice, elastic and clear.

Before going solo in 2018, Ashworth was a part of Los Angeles rock group Cherry Glazerr, and she brings some of their grunge to her more guitar-laden songs. Despite mostly playing songs from her latest album, including “In Love With a Memory” (a track that features Clairo) late in the setlist, she included “Not the Time,”  one of her best songs, from her self-titled 2019 record.

Ashworth recently covered “Maps” by Yeah Yeah Yeahs for Sounds of Saving and 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. In that video—released last month—Ashworth commends the power of music, saying, “For me, personally, making music and listening to music has saved my life over and over again.”
