Video Premiere: Jimmy Montague — “70th Avenue Hustle”

Casual Use, the upcoming record from Jimmy Montague (James Palko of Perspective, A Lovely Hand to Hold) is a dreamy mix of piano-led songs with smooth basslines, catchy guitar licks, and slick horns. “70th Avenue Hustle,” the second track on the album, opens with a contemplative, fingerpicked guitar and Palko’s voice before blossoming into a foot-stomping ‘70s rocker laden in horns. The lyrics follow the incessant, anxious thoughts that pop into your mind on a familiar walk; as the song slows to the end, Palko intones “The rent where I stay is about 11 days late / why can’t you just leave me alone?”

We’re psyched to premiere the video for “70th Avenue Hustle” here at The Popdosemagazine. On the concept of the song and video, Palko said, “I always hold the opinion that your best songs sort of fall out of you when you’re not paying attention. This song from start to finish played out in my head on the walk home from work, Union Square to Ridgewood, Queens. I wanted the video to show that, head down, lost in thought, making your way home.”

Check out the video below, and keep an eye out for Casual Use, out 5/21 on Chillwavve Records.
