The Script co-founder Mark Sheehan has passed away at the age of 46 following a brief illness.
Sheehan’s death was announced today (April 14) via The Script’s official social media accounts.
On Twitter, the rest of his bandmates mourned him and shared that they ask for privacy during this time.
“Much loved husband, father, brother, band mate and friend Mark Sheehan passed away today in hospital after a brief illness,” the statement reads.
“The family and group ask fans to respect their privacy at this tragic time,” it continued.
As of reporting, it is not clear what exact illness Sheehan had.
The news of his passing comes after he missed some shows during the US leg of the band’s tour last year. However, his time away from the tour was due to family commitments, according to Sunday World.
The Script originally formed in 2001 by Sheehan as well as frontman Danny O’Donoghue and drummer Glen Power.

The group is mostly known for their breakthrough 2008 self-titled project, which featured some of their most recognizable songs. The project included “We Cry,” “The Man Who Can’t Be Moved” and “Breakeven.”
The Script scored their biggest hit in 2012 when they teamed with Black Eyed Peas member will.i.am for the song “Hall of Fame.” It became a top 30 hit in the United States and topped the charts in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
Since then, the group has continued to release projects with their most recent one being an acoustic EP released last year called Acoustic Session 3. It was then followed by the single “Dare You to Doubt Me.”
