JD Vance Diddy Joke: VP Calls Mogul a 'Christian Theologian'

Vice President JD Vance recently shared a lighthearted moment during a discussion about his new book, Communion, making a JD Vance Diddy joke that caught the audience’s attention. Speaking at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum on June 25, Vance reflected on his personal journey of faith and the intersection of his political career.

The conversation turned to a specific chapter in his book titled “More Money, More Problems.” The title, a clear nod to the Notorious B.I.G.’s 1997 classic from the Life After Death album, prompted Vance to comment on the song’s producer and former mogul, Sean “Diddy” Combs. JD Vance decided to poke fun at the rapper’s recent legal troubles by ironically framing him as a spiritual authority.

“Well, again, I’m a millennial and so I believe that’s, uh, that’s the wisdom of the great Christian theologian P. Diddy,” Vance joked. He quickly followed up by acknowledging the irony, noting that recent years have shown Combs is “very much not a Christian or a theologian.” While the crowd responded with chuckles, the Vice President appeared briefly uncertain if the humor landed as intended.

Nevertheless, Vance used the moment to explain the deeper meaning behind the chapter. He revealed that the title was inspired by his early years when he prioritized financial gain and professional prestige over a spiritual life. He discovered that as his fame and bank account grew, so did the complexities of his existence. It was only after leaning into his faith and family that he found true clarity and purpose.

Sean “Diddy” Combs is unlikely to find humor in the remark, as he is currently serving a 50-month federal prison sentence. He was found guilty last July on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. Following a recent adjustment to his sentence in March, his release date is now set for April 25, 2028.
