Jamie T made a triumphant return to the stage last night (August 20) with a last-minute intimate show at London’s Scala. This highly anticipated Jamie T comeback show followed the release of his latest track ‘3310’ earlier this week, marking his first live performance in two years. Arriving on stage at 8:30 PM, he was immediately greeted with the familiar, boisterous chants of “Jamie, Jamie, Jamie fucking T!”—a refrain that echoed throughout the 90-minute performance.
The setlist offered a balanced transition between established fan favorites and a compelling preview of his upcoming sixth studio album, Ghosts (100 Days Of Morning). Early in the evening, Treays introduced the new track ‘Waist 36” Leg 32”’, a song anchored by a massive, anthemic chorus. The only other new material performed was the recently released ‘3310’, which received a warm and energetic reception from the London crowd.
For the remainder of the set, the audience was treated to a career-spanning selection of hits. Highlights included the high-energy ‘Rabbit Hole’ from his 2014 album Carry On The Grudge and the nostalgic ‘Salvador’ from his debut record, which prompted the crowd to break into rhythmic “Ooh Aah!” chants. “That’s what I hear when I go to sleep,” Treays quipped, later joking with the crowd about the intensity of their participation. “I worked it out – it was your fucking fault with the ‘ooh! Aah’!” he added with a grin.
Reflecting on the significance of the venue, Treays noted that Scala was the first place he performed with a full band back in 2006. “It’s lovely to see you all back, and it’s lovely to be back,” he told the capacity audience.
The encore saw Treays return to the stage for a second rendition of ‘3310’ before switching to an acoustic guitar for a poignant performance of ‘Back In The Game’. The energy peaked as the opening notes of ‘Sheila’ rang out, sparking one of the most enthusiastic reactions of the night. Adding to the evening’s indie pedigree, Treays invited long-time friend and collaborator Hugo White of The Maccabees to join him on guitar for the final tracks, ‘Sticks N’ Stones’ and ‘Zombie’.
“Have a good night, everyone,” Treays concluded. “This has been great. I’ll see you again soon.” Following this intimate warm-up, Jamie T is scheduled to embark on a full UK tour this December.
