In a candid social media update, Britney Spears has expressed her intent to distance herself from her current family dynamics. The singer shared a poignant message on Instagram, alleging that her sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, and her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, subjected her to treatment that made her “feel like a slave” during visits to their homes.
The post, which utilized a clip from the 2003 film Uptown Girls, detailed specific grievances regarding her interactions with her family. Spears claimed that she was restricted from holding her niece, Ivey, during visits to Louisiana throughout the pandemic. Furthermore, she alleged that Federline denied her access to the restroom while she was picking up their sons, describing the environment as one filled with “secret things” conducted behind her back.
“They made me feel like a slave and have all their secret things they did behind my back and all I ever did was work for my dad,” Spears wrote. She concluded her statement with a firm declaration: “I will find a new family !!!”
This latest development follows a period of significant personal and professional transition for the artist. In February, it was reported that Spears sold the rights to her complete music catalog to Primary Wave. Additionally, the singer has faced legal challenges, including a recent DUI charge that resulted in a 12-month summary probation period, which includes mandatory DUI classes and regular meetings with mental health professionals.
Despite these ongoing challenges, Spears continues to engage with her creative roots. In October, she released “She’ll Never Be Me,” a track originally written with Justin Timberlake during the sessions for her 2001 album, Britney. These events occur in the wake of the dissolution of her controversial 13-year conservatorship, which officially ended in November 2021.
