He charts his first No. 1 on each survey simultaneously.
Boasting his first No. 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100 and first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 simultaneously, Roddy Ricch reaches rarified chart air among rappers.
As previously reported, the 21-year-old's "The Box" rises to No. 1 on the Hot 100 (dated Jan. 18), becoming his first leader on the songs survey.
Concurrently, his debut LP, Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial, rebounds for a second week atop the Billboard 200 albums chart, after it became his first No. 1 on the Dec. 21-dated ranking.
Roddy Ricch is the first artist to top the Hot 100 and Billboard 200 at the same time since both Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, whose duet "Shallow" and soundtrack to A Star Is Born led the respective rankings dated March 9, 2019; As with Roddy Ricch, that song and album brought actor/singer Cooper his first No. 1 on each chart.
Prior to Cooper, Camila Cabello last charted a first No. 1 on each list simultaneously, when "Havana," featuring Young Thug, ruled the Hot 100 and her debut album, Camila, opened atop the Billboard 200, both dated Jan. 27, 2018.
Among rappers, the achievement is rare historically.
Kanye West reigned with his first Hot 100 No. 1 as a lead artist, "Gold Digger," featuring Jamie Foxx, concurrent with his first Billboard 200 No. 1, Late Registration, for two weeks in September 2005. (West had first topped the Hot 100 in February 2004 as featured, with Foxx, on Twista's "Slow Jamz.")
Previously, 50 Cent ccommanded the Hot 100 and Billboard 200 with his first No. 1 on each chart simultaneously for three weeks in April-May 2003, when "In Da Club" and Get Rich or Die Tryin' topped the tallies together.
Going back further, The Notorious B.I.G. also attained the honor, shortly after his passing, when his "Hypnotize" and Life After Death led the respective charts for a week in March 1997.
Meanwhile, Kris Kross became the first rap act overall to score such a twofer, when the duo's "Jump" and self-titled debut album ruled the Hot 100 and Billboard 200 for a week in June 1992.
(Additionally, The Black Eyed Peas have long melded rap and pop, and first led the Hot 100 and Billboard 200 simultaneously with their first No. 1 on each chart, "Boom Boom Pow" and The E.N.D., for two weeks in June-July 2009. The single previously topped the Hot Rap Songs chart.)
