KC & the Sunshine Band Revive 'Love Goes Up and Down' With NYNE [Exclusive]

Harry Wayne Casey, the legendary frontman better known as KC of KC & the Sunshine Band, has reached into his musical archives to revive a long-lost treasure. In a new collaboration with his longtime music director and vocalist NYNE, the disco icon has officially released “Love Goes Up and Down,” a track with a history spanning nearly four decades. Originally featured in the 1986 film Knights of the City, the song has been reimagined with a fresh sound that blends signature dance grooves with contemporary production.

The release marks a significant moment for the duo, as the track never received an official commercial release following its cinematic debut. Speaking on the emotional core of the single, Casey highlighted the cyclical nature of romance. “Love goes in many directions. Sometimes you fall in love, fall out of love, and then find your way back in love again,” Casey explained. “You break up, you make up, and you start all over again. Love goes up and down. Love goes round and round.”

Despite their extensive history of performing together on global stages, “Love Goes Up and Down” represents the first official studio recording collaboration between KC and NYNE. The partnership brings a modern energy to a composition first heard during the height of the mid-80s music scene.

“The song is definitely a testament to the sphere of emotion that comes with relationships,” NYNE noted. “At any point, it’s always ok to dance. It’s a blessing and an honor to be able to work with a beast of the ’70s and 80s.”

By bridging generations of music fans, the duo has finally given this archival piece the spotlight it deserves. With its infectious rhythm and timeless themes, “Love Goes Up and Down” ensures that a nearly forty-year-old melody finds a new home on modern dance floors.
