Exploding in Sound Records Anniversary Show Live in Brooklyn

Posted: by The Alt Editing Staff

Recently, it was the second night of Exploding in Sound Records’ 14th anniversary celebration weekend. Hosted at Baby’s All Right in Brooklyn, the evening opened with the Michigan-based duo Bimbo playing their first-ever New York set. El Kempner of Palehound followed with a solo acoustic set that needed no backing band to land with impact. Two Inch Astronaut then took the stage for their first show in seven years, moving through songs from acclaimed albums Can You Please Not HelpFoul Brood, and several deep cuts that longtime fans were excited to hear again. Friends and labelmates filled the room and the pit throughout the night. Speedy Ortiz closed with a set of longtime favorites for a crowd made up of supporters, collaborators, and friends who have been with them since the early days.

Exploding in Sound, founded in 2011 by Dan Goldin and Dave Spak while they were students in Boston, has grown into a tightly knit indie rock label now based in Jersey City. Its roster blends loud, guitar-driven rock with intimate songwriting and has supported artists such as Pile, LVL UP, Porches, Palehound, Grass Is Green and Ovlov. The 11/22 show was part of a larger weekend celebration that also featured sets from EIS artists Prewn, Rick Rude, Smile Machine, and Krill 2.
