Over the weekend we got to catch JUSTICE live in Boston again. The French electronic duo has been hitting new peaks this entire past year, most notably with a feature on the opening track of The Weeknd’s newest album. With every new accomplishment comes an even bigger venue to play on tour.
While we can see the comparisons to Daft Punk, it’s evident JUSTICE has carved a niche of their own. This time around, JUSTICE brought us all outdoors to Bowery’s new Stage at Suffolk Downs: grassy lawns, a rainbow across the sky, and thousands of fans packing in on a Saturday night, ready for what’s to come. A sharp start time of 8:50PM brought the duo out to man their stations just as the sun was setting, allowing their light design to steal the show.
Seeing EDM artists live is truly the way we think their music should be experienced. That’s not to discredit their recorded material by any means, but starting the show by live mixing “Genesis,” “Phantom,” “Generator,” and “Phantom pt. II” transcends what’s possible through earbuds. It doesn’t stop there either – their entire set is live mixes of all their tracks, providing a truly unique experience. Rather than hear each start to finish, we get an endless stream of mashups while their entire stage design transforms in front of us. Diehard fans up front cheered endlessly for more with each transition. Those likely under the influence of hallucinogenics wanting a calmer experience could sit down on towels in the grass outback and enjoy the music on the summer night.
As we stated when we saw JUSTICE in 2024: these are professionals you’re dealing with. They know how to deliver a groundbreaking show while respecting everyone’s time. A transformative 90-minute experience is guaranteed with these (and any future) live shows they put on.
