Trixie Mattel has proven herself as a queen of many talents. She can sing, she can act, and she can deliver side-splitting comedy. But in a new video, the drag star shows off a skill that many have yet to see from her: cooking.
On the latest episode of Bon Appétit’s YouTube series “Back-to-Back Chef,” Mattel gets challenged by food director Carla Lalli Music to bake and plate her very own strawberry shortcake by only hearing verbal instructions. “Any boyfriend I’ve had knows I love verbal, so let’s do it,” Trixie cracks.
Shortly into her cooking experience, Mattel points out that cooking in drag isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, especially since she has makeup covering her hands and arms. But, as Trixie points out, she’s a professional. “Honestly, I’m in drag so much, I’ve learned to do pretty much every single thing in drag,” she says. “The only thing you can’t do in drag is exercise.”
At one point, as she’s forming the biscuits of her shortcake, Mattel comes to a hilarious realization: “I have a sold-out show at Webster Hall tonight, and it just occurred to me that I’m spending the morning in drag making biscuits,” she says, laughing. “Like, get a f—ing life, drag is so stupid.”
But by the end of the video, Mattel managed to make a delicious strawberry shortcake, even if she accidentally turned it upside down. Check out the full video of Trixie’s culinary adventure below:
