Last October, Cleveland alternative rock duo Dogs Run Free released their Weird EP, a collection of songs that were written and recorded between 2022 and 2023. Mixed and mastered by Isaac Hraga, Phil Odom, Corey Coffman, and Will Killingsworth, it comprised of noisy, energetic tracks that oscillated between lofi indie pop and punk rock with an invigorating element of reckless abandon.
Their new single “Too Wow” off the upcoming Normal EP is straightforward breezy alternative rock reminiscent of mid-90s era with a more polished sound than their last release. However, if the band’s past releases are any indication of what they’re capable of, this is merely one side of the multifaceted duo who effortlessly defy genre.
The band shares, “Too Wow is a simple song that took a long time to come together – we had the main riff for months and didn’t know what to do with it. At the core we wanted something catchy, but not overly saccharine, somewhere in the middle of Hole and Saved era Now, Now. Lyrically it’s more literal than we’re used to writing, basically summing up experiences and feelings in the months following my dad’s passing.”
