It's the second remake of the ballad to reach an airplay survey, following DHT's in 2005.
Roxette‘s late-’80s classic “Listen to Your Heart” is back on Billboard‘s charts, this time re-imagined as a hard rock anthem.
Through Fire‘s version debuts at No. 40 on the Mainstream Rock Songs airplay chart dated March 21.
It’s the latest rendition of the song to reach a chart, following DHT‘s in 2005.
Roxette’s original became the pop duo’s second No. 1 (of four) on the Billboard Hot 100 in November 1989, following “The Look” earlier that year. It also peaked at No. 2 on the Adult Contemporary airplay ranking that month.
A decade and a half later, the song returned to prominence via two versions from duo DHT, an uptempo trance take. Sporting vocals from DHT’s Edmee, the song soared to No. 8 on the Hot 100 in August 2005.
Roxette vocalist Marie Fredriksson, the singer of the original “Listen to Your Heart,” died on Dec. 9 following a nearly two-decade battle with cancer. Shortly after, the composition made its way onto the LyricFind U.S. chart, which tracks lyric searches and usages in the U.S., at No. 4 (Dec. 21).
Fredriksson’s death wasn’t the impetus for Through Fire’s cover, however. The group’s rendition was originally released in July 2019, with its video released on, coincidentally, Dec. 9, just prior to the news of Fredriksson’s death, concurrent with the announcement that the song would be the band’s next single at radio.
A little over three months later, the track debuts on Mainstream Rock Songs, marking Through Fire’s sixth chart entry and second from its latest album, All Animal (released last July), following the title track, which reached No. 26 in October.
