Niall Horan has his first U.K. solo No. 1 album, as Heartbreak Weather (Capitol/Universal) enters at the top. There’s also a new champion on the singles chart, where Saint Jhn‘s “Roses” (HITCO/B1/Ministry of Sound) rises 2-1.
Horan’s 2017 solo debut Flicker was a platinum-selling No. 1 in the U.S., but peaked at No. 3 in the U.K. The new release wins an extremely tight three-way battle, in which Lewis Capaldi‘s Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent (EMI/Universal) holds at No. 2 and U.K. country-pop duo The Shires‘ Good Years, their first set for BMG after three for Decca, enters at No. 3. The Official Charts Company reports that only 2,300 combined units separate the three titles.
Liverpool band Circa Waves score a career-best No. 4 start with their fourth album Sad Happy (Prolifica), while Lil Uzi Vert‘s Eternal Atake (Atlantic/Warner) dips 3-5. Also new in the top ten, just over 25 years after his death, is British singer Matt Monro‘s Stranger In Paradise (UMC/Universal). The combined unreleased studio session and greatest hits package arrives at No. 8, his first top ten showing since The Ultimate Matt Monro reached No. 7 in 2005.
Guyanese-American rapper Saint Jhn has waited four years for “Roses” to bloom, since its first release in 2016. It reaches the summit in its 11th chart week, and by an even narrower margin than Horan’s: the single finishes 210 combined units ahead of The Weeknd‘s “Blinding Lights” (Republic/XO/Universal), ending its five-week run at No. 1.
Aitch and A.J. Tracey’s “Rain” (NQ), featuring Tay Keith, is steady at No. 3, as is Roddy Ricch‘s “The Box” (Atlantic/Warner) at No. 4. After two weeks at No. 7, DJ and producer Joel Corry’s “Lonely” (Perfect Havoc/Asylum/Warner) climbs to No. 5, beating his previous best with last year’s “Sorry,” which reached No. 6.
