The Alternative Weekly Roundup is a column where our staff plugs a variety of new releases in a concise, streamlined format. Albums, singles, videos, and live sets. Check back each Monday to see what we were jamming the week prior.
FLOOR CRY – Slasher Flick
On her debut album, FLOOR CRY melds the hookiness of synth pop with the fluidity of dream pop to dazzling effect. Over less than half hour, Slasher Flick shows that the Manitoba singer-songwriter is one of the best in her lane already.

Boyish – “Kill Your Pain (ft. King Princess)”
King Princess slots naturally into Boyish’s brand of polished indie pop. “Kill Your Pain” is a dream collaboration between the two, and when the song erupts into a cloud of feedback in its final thirty seconds is a genuinely thrilling moment—that’s just the icing on the cake.

Ogbert the Nerd – “Bike Cops”
Both instantly gripping on first listen and rewarding the more you hit repeat, “Bike Cops” is a perfect example of what makes Ogbert The Nerd such a kickass and unique emo band. The winding riffs under the shoutalong chorus of “you’ve said get over it / I said I’m used to it / we’ll find better ways to waste each other’s time” are deceptively intricate, vocalist Madison James scrapes a wealth of emotion from the repetition of “you could drag around my body just to show that I cared,” there’s a killer moment when the band drops out under James as they deliver biting line “so don’t talk to me if you don’t want to say anything / I don’t want to be a lower level obligation,” and the whole thing flames out in a blaze of horns. And, despite the chorus lyrics, Ogbert don’t waste their time here, packing all of this in about two and a half minutes.

FOOTBALLHEAD – Overthinking Everything
The name FOOTBALLHEAD alone tells you what to expect from this project. Overthinking Everything is a taut half hour of late ‘90s, early 2000s pop rock. Every single song on here could be the end credits theme for a coming-of-age movie. There’s a lot of people doing this style—including collaborator snow ellet—but few are doing it this well.

Harmony – “Good Things Take Time”
“Good Things Take Time,” the debut solo single from Harmony Tividad of Girlpool, picks up exactly where Forgiveness left off. It’s a glitchy, danceable pop song, one that retains the idiosyncrasies of her previous band while potentially opening her sound up to new audiences.
