Prize Horse burst out of Minneapolis in January of last year with their EP Welder. They fit fairly neatly into the group of bands pulling from the fuzzier ends of ’90s alt rock–at their loudest, they approached the bludgeoning shoegaze of Grivo; at their most melodic, the shimmery blur of Narrow Head. It’s a great debut, landing them on dates with everyone from Superheaven and Koyo to Scowl and Miliarie Gun.
Today, though, the trio’s closing that chapter. We’re happy to premiere the band’s smoldering new single “Your Time,” our first taste of their as-yet-untitled debut LP, slated for release early next year on New Morality Zine. The track strips away some of the layers of grime that coated tracks like “Melt” and “Musket” off Welder, showing that, when it gets down to it, Prize Horse know how to write a straight-up killer rock song. The band says, “‘Your Time’ was recorded early this summer in Loveland, Colorado, with our dear friend and collaborator Corey Coffman. We chose this as the first single from our LP because it’s a natural jumping point from the Welder EP, and is one of the first songs we wrote following that release. Our lives were shifting quickly. This song is about procrastinating that change, and not wanting to deal with the feelings that come along with it. Thanks for listening and we hope you enjoy.”
