Song Premiere: My Sister Maura – “Mars”

Posted: by The Editor

My Sister Maura’s a fresh new dream pop band out of Raleigh, NC. Comprising guitarists Katie Quinn and Geet Khatri, bass player Elijah Hall, and drummer David Moore, they list their main inspirations as Built to Spill, Cocteau Twins, and The Cure. Those are pretty fair reference points for the sound of their upcoming debut EP Faintest Screams.

“Mars” opens the EP with lilting vocals and airy riffs that waft from ear to ear. It’s much less abrasive than a lot of the heavier shoegaze that’s en vogue now, relying less on searing guitars than on atmosphere. “Mars” is a great taste of what to expect from the rest of Faintest Screams, which is surely one of the most auspicious debuts the genre will see in 2023. Check out the track below.
