Songs that feel perfect to drive to, either alone or packed in a car with friends, are a type of song that shouldn’t be too difficult to find. Yet one would be surprised how temperamental the right tune is for driving 65 MPH on an open highway. Trans punk rocker Jordan Maye’s new single “Tear It Down,” might be the next track destined to find rotation in this specific genre.
It captures the quick, steady build of rebellion as the folky lull of an acoustic intro breaks away to a brash, anthemic chorus. Saturated with heavy gang vocals, high velocity fun, and Mayes’ electric voice, once “Tear It Down” warms up, it doesn’t stop until it reaches its red-hot end. Now, imagine all of that while watching the clouds go by on an evening drive to anywhere.
Here’s what Maye has to say about the single:
“Tear It Down” came from a place of emotional reclamation. I had built so much of my self-worth around someone else’s approval. It felt like the scaffolding that I’d built my identity on had collapsed. But instead of trying to rebuild it the same way, I wanted to burn the blueprint entirely. The song became this fierce, melodic act of demolition—of tearing down the version of myself that lived for someone else, so I could start over on my own terms.
“Tear It Down” officially drops June 12th, but you can listen to it here first.
