After a rainy day in Nashville, the skies cleared just in time for fans to flood into the historic Ryman Auditorium. Something Corporate, back on the road for the first time in over 20 years, proved their enduring appeal with a sold-out show that featured support from Zac Clark and Kevin Devine. Despite having only two albums and a hiatus that began in 2005, their loyal fanbase remains as passionate as ever.
The band launched their powerful two-hour set with “Straw Dog,” instantly bringing the crowd to their feet, where they stayed for the entirety of the performance. Early in the show, frontman Andrew McMahon took a brief, heartfelt pause to look out into the crowd and talk about the significance of playing the Ryman for the first time. His connection with the audience didn’t end there, often walking out into the crowd and even getting stuck on the balcony during “Hurricane” as the stairs leading back to the stage had to be unlocked.
As the band played, footage from their The Making of North documentary (2003) was shown on screen, featuring clips of each band member speaking to the camera. These moments were a beautiful reminder of the passage of time, while highlighting how timeless their music still feels after all these years.
The night reached an emotional height with the sad nearly 10-minute piano-driven ballad “Konstantine,” before closing with “If U C Jordan.” It was a night that not only celebrated Something Corporate’s return but reaffirmed their lasting impact on fans who have held on to these songs for decades. Leaving the venue, a girl behind me captured the show in a single sentence, “I know I’m biased but that’s one of the greatest shows I’ve ever seen in my life.” And it rings true, their presence on stage and the ability to bring fans back to the first time they heard those songs is truly unforgettable.
