PUP and Jeff Rosenstock Live in NYC

Posted: by The Alt Editing Staff

PUP and Jeff Rosenstock are already two names that would send the emo and pop/punk crowd running through the doors of Brooklyn Paramount on a Saturday evening. With the two already collaborating on a track on PUP’s new album Who Will Take Care of the Dogs? it seemed like a no-brainer for the two to tour together and they certainly brought the energy. First up were opener, Ekko Astra, a D.C.-based band whose heavy political messaging and traditional punk influences set the tone for the evening. Between songs, the band made comments about the state of the world and the importance of togetherness. Next up was Jeff Rosenstock, a NY favorite, who is originally from Long Island. Jeff and his band tore the stage up with their fast paced tracks. It’s clear that Jeff and the band are incredible musicians, but even more so, amazing bandmates. Their energy was infectious as they were smiling and laughing all throughout their set. Frontman, Jeff Rosenstock, evidently knows his audience and played an assortment of tracks as well as the hits from his discography. After Jeff left the stage, the fans were greeted by Canadian punks PUP, who entered on stage with the Baja Men’s “Who Let the Dogs Out?” Again, another band who tore the stage up raw. PUP know their fans extremely well, playing off their new record while keeping up with the pace and sampling tracks from their previously adored records. What the fans did not expect was an encore of both Jeff Rosenstock’s band and PUP covering tracks from both of their discographies. Their backdrop changed to a very D.I.Y. “DOUBLE BAND” backdrop, inviting all from the past two sets to join in. To see Jeff and Stefan have the time of their lives up on stage was a delight to watch. Especially since all acts commented on how the world right now feels bleak and depressing, but we still have moments like that night to take a breath and enjoy some top-tier music.
