At its very best, shoegaze should sound like a UFO’s landing in your backyard. Most contemporary shoegaze bands do not sound like this; in fact, most of them sound like your older brother’s favorite band from two decades ago heard from the other side of a locked door. Not Sparkler.
Sparkler’s “Pet Hotel,” the second single from Glidewinder, which drops in April, barely even sounds like the work of humans. It is, yes, glidey and windy, and it’s also just absolutely beautiful. Slow and warbly and delicate, it’s one of the most exciting shoegaze songs of the year, and we’ve got a premiere of the video. Give it a listen below.
