Premiere: 0 Miles Per Hour – “Becky”

Posted: by The Alt Editing Staff

It hasn’t even been a year since 0 Miles Per Hour released their excellent Shell EP, but a lot has changed in the time since. For one thing, they’ve signed with the always reliable Chicago label New Morality Zine; for another, they’ve mostly settled in on one relatively consistent sound. The Florida band’s earlier releases pulled in influences from post-hardcore, shoegaze, and pop-punk, but on their upcoming Gallop EP, out this Friday, they’ve landed on a nice washed-out alt rock sound, not far off from Hotline TNT, Diiv, or Ovlov. They displayed that nicely on lead single “Bite It Off,” and they perfect it on “Becky,” the EP’s opener, which we’re excited to premiere below.

About the new single, 0 Miles Per Hour explains that it’s “a song about being in what feels like a one sided relationship, but not caring because you love the person so much, and clinging on to whatever positives you can find in that moment. The song tastefully pairs vulnerable lyrics with heavy, atmospheric guitars. The song was originally meant to be acoustic, but a full-band arrangement felt more emotionally charged.”

Check out “Becky” below.
