On August 7th, The National played to a sold out crowd at The Fillmore in Detroit, MI. New Zealand’s The Beth’s opened for the Cincinnati band. The Beth’s performed an energetic set with a large fish head towering over them on the stage. The National took the stage, starting their set with the moody album-opener “Once Upon a Poolside” from their newest LP “First Two Pages of Frankenstein.” The set goes back and forth between the band’s high-energy songs and their sentimental, slower ballads. Frontman Matt Berninger moved fluidly between these two dynamics, screaming or gently crooning. The band delivered a five song encore starting with the album-closer of their most recent LP, “Send For Me” and four of their biggest hits. Going into the fall, the band will continue to tour in support of “First Two Pages of Frankenstein.”
