Re:SET Concert Series is the newest three day event traveling its way across America right now. While not as packed as a festival would be, the series chose some of the best of the best artist to debut this series.
Day one featured Toro Y Moi, James Blake, and Steve Lacy at Boston’s newest outdoor venue, The Stage at Suffolk Downs. Despite the majority of people arriving straight from their jobs, the audience members packed in and screamed in excitement for each artist. Their enthusiasm was noticeable enough that Steve Lacy remained stationary on stage until it was quiet enough to begin playing. Because Re:SET has less artists per day than a typical festival, the headliners all started at a much earlier time each night allowing for us to sleep and recharge for the next day.
While we anticipated day two with LCD Soundsystem, Jamie XX, and IDLES, Boston’s weather had other plans and it was rained out. Day three, however, gave us clear skies for the finale of the weekend. Starting the show was one of The Alternative’s favorite artists, Bartees Strange. After a strong performance from Bartees, Dijon took the stage and gave the audience a chance to slow down and vibe out before Clairo came out for a hometown show. The Boston native was shown ample love before Boygenius closed out the night. Fans of all ages queued along the barricade refusing to leave the spot they staked to watch the trio perform. They performed a two hour set which featured the entirety of their new album, the record, their debut EP, and one cover from each of their solo projects.
Overall, we feel that Re:SET Concert Series had a successful start and we are excited to see how it transforms in the years to follow. It felt as though each day was curated with adult fans in mind so everyone saw the artists they wanted while giving their space to fans of others they did not want. With a city as busy as Boston with shows, the spacing of the days also allowed everyone to see the days they wanted and still support other touring artists in the area.
