Photography + Review: Gregory Alan Isakov

This winter, Gregory Alan Isakov ventured out from his farm in Colorado for an intimate tour: no openers and a sharp start time of 8pm. Gregory told the sold out crowd at Roadrunner that he was touring to get a chance to play some deep cuts from each album before releasing a new album later this year. Kicking off the set were three personal favorites from Evening Machines including “Southern Star”, “Dark, Dark, Dark”, and “San Luis”. Gregory then brought it back to 2009 to perform the title track from This Empty Northern Hemisphere. As the night went on we heard crowd favorites such as “She Always Takes It Black”, “Stable Song”, and “Big Black Car”. After powering through 15 songs, Gregory bowed out with “Caves”. The cheering of over 4,000 fans couldn’t be ignored – we were treated to an encore “Dandelion Wine” and “Saint Valentine”. We thought the show was over, but Boston never backs down and brought Gregory out for a second encore of “All Shades of Blue” before officially retiring for the night. It was a magical night in Boston that we won’t be forgetting anytime soon! We’re looking forward to his new album and can’t wait to see what he has in store next!
