Nothing Live in Brooklyn

Posted: by The Alt Editing Staff

Nothing’s 5th LP a short history of decay has permeated the shoegaze and alt-rock space with its incredible production and sound. The band continue to refine their sound throughout the years of songwriting and touring, creating their own space within the shoegaze and alt-rock space. Opening for Nothing were a variety of great acts. When I first walked into the venue, VMO was dominating the stage. Their electronic/metal mix was an unexpected pick for a Nothing bill. However, the crowd went all in and were really enjoying the sound and the incredible stage presence that they had. Next up were Cryogeyser, an LA-based band whose dream-pop/shoegaze 3 piece helped to ground the crowd back again from the previous opener. With only 3 instruments, guitar, bass, and drums, Cryogeyser pack their sound in without it feeling muddied or too “wall-to-wall” for it to be indistinguishable from each other. It was a nice transition from Cryogeyser to Full Body 2. The Philly-based band have been in the scene for quite some time. With each release amping up their sound and pushing it further and further. Seeing them live proved just that. The band truly took up a lot of space on the stage with their lighting effects, pedal boards, and stage presence. Their sound reflected that as well, engulfing the entire venue with everything they got.

Next up were Nothing. On stage, they clearly are loving playing their set. As musicians, Nothing are really strong and have a lot of admiration for one another. They all take up space on the stage without one overshadowing the other, and it shows in the way they play. Every member had a moment or a piece of the set that highlighted them and showcased how cohesive they sound throughout many tracks of their discography. It was an excellent celebration of their collective accomplishments with this project.
