During a recent performance in Washington, D.C., the singer-songwriter addressed these “escalating horrors” with a satirical segment involving a mock phone call from Congress during his “Dial Drunk” performance.
“Hello? Congress. Oh, people have been pissing all over the floor at my shows as well?” Kahan exclaimed into the prop telephone. “So, you guys are ordering by Act of Congress that everyone has to wear diapers before they get in? Is that what we’ve come to?” Addressing the capacity crowd, Kahan added, “Alright, you heard Congress, fucking put some diapers on next time, y’all.”

Kahan, who is currently in the midst of a sold-out stadium tour for his fourth studio album, The Great Divide, has previously expressed his concerns regarding fan behavior. Last month, he took to social media to urge attendees to prioritize hygiene and respect for venue staff. “If you have to poop at a show please dear god just go to the bathroom,” he wrote on X. “I’ve pooped my pants as much as the next 29-year-old, but you guys gotta understand there’s a venue worker out there with a 1000-yard stare after dealing with that.”
The singer’s comments follow a wave of viral posts on platforms like Reddit and TikTok, where concertgoers have shared accounts of fellow fans behaving “feral” on the floor. Kahan is not the only artist to witness this phenomenon. Olivia Rodrigo also recently shared her experiences with fans refusing to leave the front row for bathroom breaks.
Appearing on the U.K. radio show Kiss Breakfast, Rodrigo noted, “I have been to certain concerts and certain festivals where people wear diapers so that they can be front row of the show. That’s been an experience of a performer that I have smelled and experienced.”
