Lights Live in Boston

On June 3rd, we got to see Lights live in Boston. This long-awaited tour from the synth pop legend is selling out night after night, and there’s no better way to kick off the final stretch of the tour than a stop in Massachusetts!

This tour comes fresh off the heels of her sixth album (aptly titled A6) and, rather than go for the thousand cap venues she’s used to, Lights is packing everyone into underplay clubs to make it feel like the beginning again. That means no barricades, no crazy hidden fees, and no bullshit! Just hundreds of fans celebrating the 15 year career of their favorite artist.

Now, this being a new album cycle, it’s customary for us to hear new tracks right at the beginning of the set. For other artists this might be a detractor, but not for Lights. Everyone front row knew every word to the first two tracks “Day Two” and “Damage.” When you have six albums under your belt, it can be hard to give the fans all the material they want; you have to play the hits like “Siberia,” but what about the fan favorites that fall between that and the new album? The solution: Lights interpolated “The Last Thing on Your Mind,” “February Air,” and “The Listening” into one song so everyone got a snippet of their favorite deep cut.

Welcoming the second half of the setlist was PEP heavy hitter “Salt and Vinegar.” Personally, we at The Alternative think that album should have been the soundtrack to everyone’s summer 2022. We were also happy to see “Grip” sneak its way in. While the crowd might wish the show could go on forever, all good things must come to an end. Lights sent us on our way with “Alive Again” to end the night. We can only hope with the success of this underplay tour that a bigger fall tour is in the works. Until then, keep on giving A6 the spins it deserves!
