J-pop singer-songwriter Leo Ieiri is releasing her first EP, a short-but-sweet collection of covers of well-known songs by other Japanese acts, spanning from the 1970s to the 2000s.
The 25-year-old artist chose what songs to cover from more than 10,000 requests sent in from fans. “I really appreciated so many people sending in suggestions for what songs they wanted me to sing,” she shared. “With respect and reverence in my heart, I hope to live up to the history of these classic numbers.”
The five songs included in her upcoming EP, Answers, due April 22: Yen Town Band’s “Swallowtail Butterfly,” Elephant Kashimashi’s “Kanashimi no hate,” Itsuro Shimoda’s “Naku kamo shirenai,” Ken Hirai’s “POP STAR,” and Momoe Yamaguchi’s “Cosmos.”
