Elliott Skinner, formerly of vocal trio Thirdstory who has worked with Chance the Rapper, Jon Batiste and others, is set to embark on a solo path. The first taste from the Brooklyn-based artist is Be Honest featuring Canteen Killa.
With its eclectic mix of folk/soul gospel-electro, Skinner reflects inward and beyond with an introspective and refreshing performance.
“This song is an exploration of ideas based on themes of self-doubt, relationships, the trials of life, our search for fulfillment, and honesty,” says Skinner. “This is actually the first track Samuel and I made together in 2019, we revisited the basis of it earlier this year and knew it was an idea we had to finish. Every part of working on the project this song has made us closer as friends and really inspired us through some pretty rough times this past year.”
Be Honest is joined by an intimate video directed by Cyrus Stowe. Filmed from sunrise to sunset in upstate New York, the video captures the song’s themes through glowing movement.
