On the same day the indie LA three-piece recorded an Audiotree Live set in Chicago, Cryogeyser sold out Schubas Tavern while touring their latest album. Newly reformed and back with a fourth album this most recent Valentine’s Day, Cryogeyser’s latest work might just be their best. Both frenetic and melodic, the self-titled Cryogeyser is a testament to Shawn Marom’s strength as a songwriter.
Opening with “Marie” from the seminal Glitch, the trio showcased slower, dreamy tracks to start before turning the volume up for some newer songs like “Stargirl,” “Livia,” and “Fortress.” One of the highlights of the night was “Leach,” undoubtedly the band’s most popular song, as Marom used a loop pedal to create backing vocals to sing over. Another three-piece (though from Kansas City, Missouri): Flooding, a rock band injected with grunge, opened the night by filling the venue with heavy drums and moody guitars. Cryogeyser continue their tour, supported by Flooding, through May 5th towards the West Coast. Check for dates here.
