Carlos Vives is making the rounds with his new single and video “No Te Vayas,” which puts in perspective all the obstacles we’re willing to overcome when we’re in love.
The heartwarming vallenato song forms part of Vives’ forthcoming album and tells the story of a person who’s starting to believe in destiny and the signs that surround them.
“‘No Te Vayas’ is another vallenato song done my way, in love like I am. To sing and announce it to the world,” Vives said about the song in a press release. “It’s the door to the world we’ll see together with the sound that I’ve been studying for so long and it’s the base of all the music in my country.”
In the playful and colorful music video, filmed by Nuno Gomes in Colombia, Vives is living the “worst day of his life,” as he’s on the way to his date’s home. He gets chased by a jealous boyfriend, he gets covered in paint, and he even gets arrested.
On the Billboard charts, “No Te Vayas” moved 19-9 on the Tropical Airplay chart dated March 21, becoming Vives’ 19th top 10 on the tally.
