After hearing BATTS‘ debut concept album, ‘The Grand Tour’, Philadelphia-based This & That Tapes owner Joseph Carlough contacted BATTS to work on a collaboration. Dancing On The Moon is the result and serves as the other side of Gravey Train’s – Carlough’s moon-themed country band – new tape.
Featuring a sample from NASA’s Voyager mission, Dancing On The Moon is sweet and soft and captures BATTS at her best. Speaking on the inspiration, BATTS says:
‘Dancing on the Moon’, a new song by BATTS, will feature on a collaborative cassette tape from Joseph Carlough’s This & That Tapes out on Oct. 2nd, 2020.
“I received the email from Joseph and had a listen to their song ‘Liftoffs and Landings’. I really loved the song and the lyric ‘I miss my wife’ really jumped out to me. I quickly walked into my studio and picked up my guitar and within the hour had written and recorded a response as the ‘wife of the astronaut’. I really love diving into stories and creating little worlds so this was a lovely fictional call-and-response project to be a part of.”
BATTS spent 2019 touring Australia with Sharon Van Etten and releasing her debut album ‘The Grand Tour’, for which she collaborated with NASA and Scienceworks to host a visual experience for her album at the Planetarium in Melbourne, Australia. She was due to head to SXSW 2020 before its cancellation.
The collaborative tape is out now on Bandcamp.
