forty winks dials everything you like about your favorite band up to a 10—maybe even an 11 depending on your internal metrics—on their new single “Spurs.” Yet another byproduct of Pittsburgh’s vibrant DIY scene, the song channels the frenzied feeling of new love. Each abrasive texture and harsh finishing touch, from the dynamic riffs to the blistering feedback, races against one another to form something greater than the sum of its parts.
“’Spurs’ is a song that Kyu and I wrote, produced, and recorded in three hours this past spring in Shadyside. Sonically and lyrically the song is one representation of how new love feels: romantic, but consuming, silent and indelible,” says singer and guitarist Conner McGee.
Be on the lookout for forty winks’s debut EP in early 2025 and keep up with them on Instagram.
