On a new episode of Rock New York — my video miniseries highlighting some of the most exciting rock bands currently playing tunes in the greater New York City area — I chatted with the current lineup of VISUALS. VISUALS is the project of frontperson / guitarist / synth-smith/ occasional cardboard robot Andrew Fox, who has a long history of NYC music-making and is currently crafting tunes with bassist Taryn Blake Miller and drummer Attis Clopton.
I caught them at the neat new cocktail bar slash performance space Sleepwalk (opened by the folks behind shuttered Williamsburg venue Cameo Gallery), where they were playing a show to commemorate the video for their song “Delivery Man.” The “Delivery Man” video has turned out to be a multi-year labor of love, combining discarded cardboard with animation, green-screening, and gold-suited hijinks that were reproduced onstage at Sleepwalk.
Amid their moment of creative triumph, the VISUALS band members talked about their YMCA gym origins and what the best and worst things about playing music in New York City are. Watch the video and subscribe to our YouTube channel for more!
