After six months on the road, the Jonas Brothers have wrapped the Happiness Begins Tour, hitting the March 21-dated Hot Tours recap (see below) at No. 3. Final reports from the trek’s European leg push total figures to $121.6 million and 1.223 million tickets sold after 90 shows, according to figures reported to Billboard Boxscore.
The Happiness Begins Tour launched on Aug. 7, 2019 at the American Airlines Arena and played 69 shows in the U.S. and Canada, through Dec. 15 at The Forum in Inglewood, Calif. In between legs, the trio played five shows in Mexico from Oct. 27 – Nov. 2. And finally, they hopped the pond for 16 shows in Europe between Jan. 29 and Feb. 22.
Not only did the band play the overwhelming majority of the tour stateside, the U.S. and Canada dates delivered the strongest per-show figures, averaging $1.52 million and 14,228 tickets per show, compared to grosses below $1 million and ticket counts between 11,400-11,500 in Mexico and Europe.
Four of the tour’s engagements land among the band’s top 10 showings ever, all in major cities, and all in the U.S. and Canada. Double-headers in New York (Madison Square Garden; Aug. 29-30) and Los Angeles (Hollywood Bowl; Oct. 20-21) are their biggest grosses ever at $5.21 million and $3.66 million, respectively. Stints in Chicago (United Center; Sept. 19-20) and Toronto (Scotiabank Arena; Aug. 23-24) follow with $3.43 million and $2.82 million.
The 2019-20 trek brought the Jonas Brothers back to the touring circuit after close to a decade-long hiatus. It finishes as the band’s biggest tour ever, surpassing the World Tour 2009’s $95.6 million finish. The nine-figure total of the Happiness Begins Tour amounts to 44% of the band’s new career-gross, which now stands at $276.3 million.
