In 2017, Ariana Grande expertly executed the global nine-month Dangerous Woman Tour, amounting to a $71.1 million gross from 75 reported shows. Two years later, on the back of two chart-topping albums, a string of hit singles, and a slew of awards buzz and critical acclaim, Grande has doubled her good fortune, wrapping The Sweetener World Tour with $146.4 million and 1.3 million tickets sold according to figures reported to Billboard Boxscore.
The Sweetener World Tour played 68 shows in North America, in addition 29 dates in Europe, all running from March 18 – December 22, 2019. Grande delivered $106.9 million in the U.S. and Canada, as opposed to $39.5 million in Europe, amounting to a 73% / 27% split. This break roughly matches that of the Dangerous Woman Tour, where her stateside earnings tripled the tour’s European grosses, at $33.2 million to $10.8 million.
While the North American dates on Grande’s 2019 tour sported a $118.54 average ticket compared to $92.52 in Europe, a quartet of international dates provided the trek’s best attendance figures, maxing out at 49,950 tickets sold from three shows at London’s O2 Arena on Aug. 17, 19-20. Thirteen engagements this year broke the 20,000 ticket barrier, up from six similarly packed engagements in 2017, and two in 2015. Meanwhile, 14 engagements grossed over $2 million, with ten hitting the $3 million mark.
The Sweetener World Tour marked personal highs for Grande any way you slice it. The trek yielded the highest total gross, total attendance, number of shows (97), average gross ($1.509 million), average attendance (13,699 tickets), and average ticket price of her career ($110.18).
At the close of 2019 and her biggest tour yet, Grande’s total career figures extend to $243.5 million and 2.7 million tickets sold from a reported 229 shows.
The Sweetener World Tour is in support of both Sweetener, Grande’s August 2018 LP, and Thank U, Next, her February 2019 follow-up. Both sets debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and yielded a combined 21 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, including two No. 1 singles (“Thank U, Next” for seven weeks; “7 Rings” for eight weeks) plus three additional top 10 singles (“No Tears Left To Cry” debuted and peaked at No. 3, “God Is a Woman” peaked at No. 8, and “Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored” debuted and peaked at No. 2).
Most recently, Grande memorialized The Sweetener World Tour with a live album called K Bye For Now (SWT Live).
