Taylor Swift recently revisited a humorous yet harrowing chapter of her early career during her induction into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. The pop icon recalled a specific Taylor Swift tour prank orchestrated by country star Brad Paisley that left her sleepless and contemplating unusual pest control solutions.
While accepting her induction on Monday night, October 26, in Nashville, Swift shared the story of the 2007 Bonfires & Amplifiers Tour. At 36, Swift has become the youngest artist ever to be inducted into the prestigious Hall of Fame, a milestone that prompted her to reflect on her formative years in the industry. The experience was so memorable that Swift joked she had been “estranged” from the country star ever since the incident occurred nearly two decades ago.
During her acceptance speech, Swift detailed how Paisley filled her entire tour bus with thousands of live crickets. The prank was so effective that it disrupted her rest for months. “For months I couldn’t sleep,” she remembered, according to reports from Rolling Stone. The situation became so desperate that the young singer admitted she spent her nights considering the purchase of a pet lizard to eradicate the infestation.
Swift’s reflection on the “cricket caper” was part of a broader tribute to her early songwriting days in Nashville. Having recently marked the 20th anniversary of her self-titled debut album, she credited the city with honing the craft she is most proud of. She spoke about how songwriting has always been the center of her life, regardless of its commercial success.
I started writing songs when I was a little kid, and I knew from the time I wrote my first song that even if it couldn’t be my career, it would be my passion. It would be what I centered my entire life around.
“Nashville is the place that honed and polished the thing about myself and the thing about my life that I am the most proud of and the most passionate about,” Swift stated, adding that she would cherish the induction as one of those “amazing Nashville moments” she would revisit on a rainy day.
The evening featured a performance by Lainey Wilson, who delivered a stripped-down rendition of Swift’s classic hit, “Love Story.” The 2026 induction class also honored Shawn Camp, Bruce Channel, Lyle Lovett, and Lee Thomas Miller, while George Strait was recognized with the Career Maker Award.
