Following its theatrical debut, Disney has officially confirmed the Mandalorian and Grogu streaming premiere date. The film, which marked the return of the Star Wars franchise to the big screen after a seven-year hiatus, is scheduled to arrive on Disney+ at the conclusion of the summer season.
The transition to streaming comes after a theatrical run that many industry analysts have characterized as underwhelming. Despite high expectations for the first Star Wars feature since 2019, the film currently ranks as the 13th highest-grossing title of 2026. It has found itself trailing behind various mid-budget projects, including the biopic Michael, the sci-fi adaptation Project Hail Mary, and horror hits such as Obsession and Backrooms. This performance marks it as the lowest-grossing Star Wars installment since the Disney acquisition of Lucasfilm in 2012.
While the financial figures may not have reached the heights of its predecessors, the film maintained a positive critical reception. Critics noted the enduring charm of the central duo, particularly the universal appeal of Grogu. As one young reviewer poignantly observed regarding the character’s simple pleasures:
