5 Seconds of Summer Get Romantic on '80s-Inspired 'Wildflower': Listen

5 Seconds of Summer has been rolling out singles for its upcoming fourth studio album since last May and its latest offering — a lovey-dovey jam called “Wildflower” — finally signals its imminent release this Friday.

The fifth single off Calm (due March 27 via Interscope) takes root in the flashy ’80s touches that have served the Aussie quartet well in the past. Booming drumbeats, psychedelic harmonies, and synthy karate chops abound.

Frontman Luke Hemmings spends the tepid verses dishing out romantic come-ons; once the show-stopping chorus hits, he leaves things up to the imagination: “You’re the only one who makes me… Every time we….”

The new track was co-written alongside Rami Yacoub and Geoff Warburton and produced by Oscar Görres. It joins “Easier,” “Teeth,” “No Shame,” and “Old Me,” amongst the advance songs released off Calm. So far, lead single “Easier” has emerged the biggest hit, peaking at No. 12 on Billboard‘s Pop Songs chart and No. 48 on the Hot 100.

And the new album isn’t the only 5SOS project dropping this week, or even the only one involving the word “Calm.” 5SOS is also prepping a four-track remix EP, set to arrive tomorrow (March 26) via the popular meditation app of the same name (Sam Smith, Sabrina Carpenter, and others have also used Calm to share new music recently).

The EP features each bandmember reimagining a different track off the new album in collaboration with producer Matt Pauling: guitarist Michael Clifford on “Easier,” bassist Calum Hood on “Old Me,” drummer Ashton Irwin on “Red Desert,” and Hemmings on “Best Years.”
