Want to Learn a New Language? BTS Are Here to Help

The group will start offering online lessons starting today (March 24).

Whatever self-improvement project you’ve been putting off all these years — finally doing a hot yoga class instead of just talking about it, baking homemade bread, learning how to play “Old Town Road” on the keytar — now is the time to dig in.

With the entire nation (and much of the world) socially distancing themselves during the coronavirus pandemic, it might also be a good time to learn a new language, and BTS are here for you.

The group announced on Sunday (March 22) that they will be hosting a 30-lesson series of three-minute Korean language classes, “Learn Korean With BTS,” on the Weverse social media app (the videos are available for free to anyone who signs up for the app).

Big Hit Entertainment said in a statement that each lesson is “designed to make it easy and fun for global fans who have difficulty enjoying BTS’ music and contents due to the language barrier.”

The statement adds that Big Hit plans to do more educational programs with artists in its roster, which includes Tomorrow X Together and GFRiend.

“With the recent popularity of K-pop and other Korean cultural contents, the demand for learning Korean is increasing greatly,” Big Hit said. “We are planning Korean education contents to improve our accessibility. We hope that through learning Korean, global fans will be able to deeply empathize with the music of artists and enjoy a wide range of contents.”

While they can’t see their A.R.M.Y. in person right now, BTS also shared a message of hope on Sunday in the middle of this global COVID-19 pandemic. “We want to thank the nursing officers, medical staff and everyone battling this virus to protect the safety and lives of the people,” they said in the clip. “We realize more than ever how meaningful our everyday life was. Standing on a stage facing empty seats, we realize how precious each moment with you was.”

The first three episodes are available now and each new episode will air on Mondays at 9:00 p.m. KST (8 a.m. EST).
