Cayley Spivey – “SFU (Revisited)”
Cayley Spivey’s had a big year, ditching her Small Talks moniker and releasing massive electro pop music under her own name. Her latest, a redone, stripped down take of “SFU,” transforms the song into a moving ballad, highlighting her incredible pipes.

La Dispute – Meantime (2021)
Meantime (2021), according to their Bandcamp page, is a companion piece to La Dispute’s Hear, Here series. In that vein, it’s a brief spoken-word EP that frames Jordan Dreyer’s heartfelt poetry against sparse piano backing.

The Ditches – “Medication”
A project between Mayday Parade’s Derek Sanders and the Dangerous Summer’s AJ Perdomo has been in talks for quite a while, but “Medication” is the first real music we’ve heard from the duo. The Ditches’ debut single makes great use of the contrast between their voices, layered over a delicate piano.

Oversize – In Balance
Shoegaze and grunge have been en vogue in 2021, and there’s been a number of bands who’ve perfected the styles. One such is Oversize, whose debut EP In Balance doesn’t quite reinvent the genre but does demonstrate that Oversize is a band who’ve already figured out exactly what they do well.

Nothing – “Mischa: Those Who Fear Tomorrow”
Nothing’s cover of Integrity’s “Mischa: Those Who Fear Tomorrow” shows a softer side of the band, a more slowcore-influenced side that they toyed with at times on last year’s The Great Dismal. It’s an eerie style in Nothing’s hands, and they absolutely crush it.

Diet Cig – Live at Studio Three
Diet Cig’s one of the more underappreciated bands in the punk sphere, and Live at Studio Three displays why. A sampler of their whole catalog played impeccably live, it’s a spectacular taste of what makes Diet Cig so charming.
